Are you down with the JammX? Um, they’re only about to take over the entire kidz music scene. Formed by Full House producer Merv Adelson and fronted by wise-crackin’ ten-year-old Bobb’e J (who moonlights as a judge on America’s Most Talented Kids), this nine-member multi-culti hip-hop sensation is making some serious noize! And it’s all in the name of inspiring other kids to get active and stay fit. About a month back, we got a 15-minute phoner with the J-man himself. That is fucking huge. He was totally cool and quick and open, talking about fame, friends, the greats of comedy, and some rumors going around that are not true. You heard it here first, Jammerz!

Vice: All right, I got a serious question for you.

Bobb’e J:

OK.

Do you smoke cigarettes?

No.

OK, good. Here’s my question: Given the ban in California on cigarette smoking and your dance group’s concern for increasing awareness among America’s youth about the importance of eating right and staying fit, I wonder if you could weigh in on the credibility of the evidence of the harmful effects of secondhand smoke. Do you consider it to be junk science?

Yes.

So you think people should be smoking everywhere. OK, I have another serious question for you. How do you think Richard Pryor’s and Chris Rock’s socio-economic backgrounds—though quite different—inflected their respective comedic acts.

Well, Richard Pryor just worked blue. That’s just his act.

Oh. What’s it like being ten and having a creepy old guy like me call you up and ask you questions?

  It’s OK. It’s neat.

Thanks. I got one more for you: How come you fell asleep on that television show.

I didn’t fall asleep. I was taking notes.

The rumor is you were up all night drinking the night before, and then you came in drunk, and you passed out.

I was taking notes.

Whatever you say. Hey, I hope this isn’t a gay question, but a lot of us over here are dying to know what your favorite dance move is. I know that’s kind of an imposition, but…

I like krumping. It’s just letting yourself go to be free with your dancing. It took me about a year to get really good at it.

INTERVIEW BY BIG PINKY

Work It Out with JammX

After we were done with Bobb’eJ, we went to each of the JammX kids and begged them to show us their signature moves.
