An attorney involved with Prince's death investigation says the singer's representatives reached out to a prominent opioid addiction doctor for treatment on the night of April 20, one day before he passed away, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Local lawyer William Mauzy told the paper that Prince's people phoned San Francisco–based opioid addiction specialist Dr. Howard Kornfeld over a "grave medical emergency."

Kornfeld apparently couldn't make it out to Minneapolis right away, but planned on flying out April 22. Mauzy told the Tribune the physician sent his son and colleague, Andrew, that same night to meet with Prince at Paisley Park and "quickly evaluate his health and devise a treatment plan." Treatment would presumably have involved Prince going to California for stabilization and around-the-clock care from Kornfeld's team.

Andrew Kornfeld hopped on a red eye to Minneapolis and arrived at Paisley Park around 9:30 AM April 21, and was one of three people present at the recording studio when Prince's body was discovered, according to the paper. The others reportedly "screamed" as the visitor dialed 911 to report the singer's death.

Toxicology tests are still in the works, and Prince's official cause of death has yet to be determined. But we do know he was hospitalized six days before his death after receiving a Narcan shot for a possible drug overdose.
