Film nerds rejoice! Yes, we know you’ve probably already devoured our latest Film Issue but luckily tonight Vice debuts a new, 6-part documentary series on IFC Canada. The Vice Guide to Film features writer and filmmaker, and co-Founder of Vice Magazine Shane Smith exploring the unexplored film cultures around the world and doing things like: acting in a Mexican drug film, getting drunk on vodka and baring his ass in a gay surrealist war film in Russia, and trying to track down cinematic punk rock auteur Gaspar Noé in Tokyo’s seedy red light district. In tonight’s episode, Shane heads to North Korea to penetrate the Korean Feature Film Studio, the state-run film production facility west of Pyongyang: a sprawling lot that at its height produced around 40 films a year (including several that featured directors and actors kidnapped from the South). Tune in to IFC Canada at 8:30 ET tonight, and every Thursday until November 5 to watch.
