Hultsfred festival is now up and running and eager visitors queue up at the entrance. Of course the weather gods didn't grant them any kind of courtesy as it's raining. This is probably the first day in a month that this has happened and why not the first day of the festival. There is the occasional spot of sun, which actually makes things even more annoying since dressing up becomes a real hassle. You walk around in your big sweater, jeans and a rain coat and all of a sudden you're sweating your ass off from the heat. Anyway…Even though the festival opened up today, campers have been here partying and getting in festival mood since Monday. And last night was no exception. Hultsfred has been hosting "pre-party" DJ-sets over at "Udden" right by lake "Hulingen" where happy campers have been able to shake their asses. The tent was packed last night when Rockfoto.nu and Anger Management played their favourite hits 'til 2 am. Some of the people there apparently got a little too hot and decided to take a bath in the lake which is probably Sweden's largest toilet during this week…Mikael "Shorty" Johansson, 23.
Shorty: My name is Mikael, but you can call me "Lillen" (shorty).
VICE: Why did you get the name Shorty?
Shorty: I don't really know. I've been called "shorty" my whole life. I even got it tattooed on my back!
VICE: How many times have you been here, Shorty?
Shorty: This is my 7th time here. I live in a village really close by.
VICE: Which band are you most excited about?
Shorty: Simple Plan!
VICE: Really? Why?.. Never mind… What did your bath feel like?
Shorty: It was really refreshing. A little bit cold though.
VICE: That wouldn't effect Shorty would it?
Shorty: What?
VICE: Did you get drunk the first time at the Hultsfred festival?
Shorty: Hell no, I was 13 the first time I got drunk.Today’s main act is without a doubt Rage Against the Machine (US) who are doing their first gig in Sweden since 2000, which was also at the Hultsfred festival. Apparently the crowd rocked so much some institute in Uppsala thought there was a minor earthquake. We're hoping for the same reaction tonight. Another fun thing could be watching Pete Doherty (GB) falling of the stage again as he did last time. Other highlights today are: The Swedish electro-phenomenon Familjen, Adam Tensta (S), Danko Jones (CA) and a couple more. Right now, one of the most hyped solo artist in Sweden Markus Kruneg√•rd, is playing at Atlantis stage. So we should go… VICE
