VICE Eats World: MUNCHIES Eats Tacos in Tulum and Ramen in Japan

At MUNCHIES, we obviously love to eat. But it's not just us who's keen on stuffing our faces: The rest of the VICE staff—who are scattered all over the planet working on stories, projects, and videos—also knows how to eat like champs.

In our column, VICE Eats World, we ask fellow VICE employees to submit photos of all of the fodder they encountered at whatever corner of the globe their roles took them to. This week, our food porn fix comes courtesy of our very own MUNCHIES staff, who has been spread across the map in recent months.

"That is 'apizza' (how they say it in New Haven) from Zuppardi's in West Haven, Connecticut. Half-sausage, half-'mooz.'"

"The raw meat is yukhoe, a Korean tartare. We got it at a little restaurant in Gwangjang Market in Seoul. My favorite part was the sesame oil, sesame seeds, and the Asian pear ."

"This woman sells kimchi at Gwangjang Market. She let me taste whatever I pointed to. The raw crab marinated in soy sauce was really delicious, and one of her favorites."

"Cochinita pibil tacos and poc chuc torta at Taqueria Honario in Tulum, Mexico. It's literally a hole in the wall that's only open for a few hours a day. The secret's out among tourists, but it's still almost entirely full of locals when I've gone."

"Salt and pepper cauliflower and peanut-crusted pork blood skewer at the New World Mall in Flushing, Queens. I've never had so much fun eating congealed blood in a Queens food court."

We finally got out of the tourist zone and popped into a little nondescript noodle shop, where I ate this perfect ramen. You order it from a vending machine and give a ticket to the chef, then he brings out this bowl of amazingness."

"I thought the presentation of this tuna tartare at NYC's Toro was insanely cute. It was also delicious. On the menu they describe it as 'tuna tartare with stuff that we really like.'"

"I was checking out Mission Chinese Food's new dim sum brunch service last weekend, and their beverage director Sam Anderson knows how much I love the Phil Khallins cocktail, which is like a boozy, sweet version of tom kha gai, so he snuck me a brunch-sized portion of the cocktail and topped it with Fruit Loops."
