The UK Video Awards take place tonight at the Odeon West End in London’s Leicester Square hosted by comedian Rich Fulcher of The Mighty Boosh. Three of our creators have been nominated…Jonas & Francois (director category) — Best Visual Effects for Audiobully’s “Only Man”We like this video, and suppose others do to, because of the perspective of the viewer looking up through the glass floor. The animated shoes are also very telling of the French directors’ style, we notice them like the footsteps on the ground too.Romain Gavras(director category) — Best Dance Video for M.I.A’s “Born Free”Banned from YouTube and probably one of the most controversial videos of the year, we’re still a little bit puzzled why this horrific pseudo-documentary would be nominated for the Best Dance Video? We knew the British had dry humor…but this one’s really pushing the limits. On the other hand, the title definitely makes us want to dance (thrash?)…you know, without those visuals.Spike Jonze (director category) — Best Indie/Alternative Video for LCD Soundsystem’s “Drunk Girls”
This video encapsulates everything that turns a party upside down. The band gets undressed, egged, tackled, sprayed with fire estinguishers, dressed up, and duct-taped together as a champagne, confetti, and firecracker riot ensues. Does anyone else think those creepy panda outfits are reminiscent of Alexandre Herchcovitch’s F/W 2010 Men’s show?Have any predictions of who will take home the awards?
