Since digital downloads have decimated the music industry, musicians are forced to get creative with the way they distribute and sell their music online. We’ve seen a number of exciting and innovative music videos built and designed for the web using Flash or, more recently, HTML5, usually with some kind of immersive, interactive environment. This new music video from Denver-based rock outfit The Gamits takes a different approach: they turned their music video into an interactive web-based puzzle game. With the help of interactive design studio Legwork, The Gamits have taken the video for their single “This Shell” off their latest album, Parts and broken it up into square puzzle pieces that users must reassemble before the song ends in order to win a free music download.
We tried three times and we weren’t able to put the puzzle together fast enough, but maybe you’ll have better luck than we did. Try it for yourself here.
