Take a Dank Crawl Through the Gloom With An Exclusive Listen to Lixo's Debut EP

Check out a dank crawl through zoned-out-semi-ambient-metallic-atmopshere-heavy-dreamy-club-pop from a rising UK producer.

Sometimes, we here at THUMP daydream about being a bit more productive. We'd like to leave work and do crosswords or go jogging or eat more orzo or finally get round to reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. We just want to be a tad more useful. We currently spend most of our free time scratching or thinking about maybe getting in the shower in a bit.

One man who puts us to shame is Alex Hislop. As the figure behind London based label, club night and radio show GETME! it's amazing that he's got time to eat breakfast, let alone put together a debut EP under his Lixo moniker. Lo and behold, Hislop must have stumbled across Bernard's long lost watch to record Gloomer. True to its title, the EP's a dank crawl through zoned-out-semi-ambient-metallic-atmopshere-heavy-dreamy-club-pop that sounds like everyone on Kompakt jamming with some of the Warp lads.

THUMP: You release tunes, you run a club night, you host a radio show...where do you find the time?
Lixo: Between cups of coffee, free floating anxiety, eating, sleeping, public transport and attempting to channel a low attention span into something productive. I find time within these 24 hours that make up a day.

We've seen your output compared to the label of the moment, 1080p. is that a fair assessment?
I definitely like 1080p, lots of great releases. I picked up the CFCF album recently. I suppose my music is pretty melodic and rooted in similar tempos to a lot of the stuff they put out. I also really like LNRDCROY — go get the Much Less Normal record, they reissued it on a really beautiful 12".

This is your debut EP...how are you going to celebrate release day?
My NTS show falls on the same day coincidently, playing on the same bill as Trim that night too, he is great, so thats a celebration. Of sorts.

Favourite flavour of KA? Still or fizzy?
I don't know what that is, presumably a soft drink. I drink lots of fizzy water.

Are white socks here to stay?
The Chicago White Socks? Yes, very popular team. You often see people wearing their baseball caps.
