SahBabii Masters His Goofy, Dextrous Wordplay on "Watery"

If you didn't spend the summer of 2017 bumping the remastered version of SahBabii's already great 2016 mixtape SANDAS, you were a fool. You missed out on not only the high-flying "Marsupial Superstars" but also the incandescent "Geronimo" and other slices of wooly, wild rap music. Be thankful, then, that the young rapper is preparing to gift us with another tape, possibly for this year, with the incredible title Squidtastic. If it's a reference to the video game series Splatoon, then it's good to know that Sah still rides hard for Nintendo. In any case, the first single from the tape is now out and though tour de force feels like too strong a description… please listen to "Watery" and tell me I'm totally incorrect.

The punchlines and similes on this song are Young Thug on Rich Gang, Tha Tour Pt. 1 (the Finnegans Wake of trap) levels of strange and memorable. Sah says that his diamonds are gold like cheddar cheese and white like Hillary Clinton. His sauce is so torrential that it's unable to be boiled away, and bears the fury of both typhoons and monsoons. Sure, these lyrics are just expressing simple flexing in the end, but the cock-eyed, free-association manner in which SahBabii does so makes the song feel truly like no other beast that roams the land (or sea).
