You know that we truly are living in a remix-driven society when even the President’s audio book is up for grabs as fodder for narration of an experimental short animation flick. Everyone knows Barack Obama as President of the USA, but now they may also come to know him as Son Of Strelka, Son Of God thanks to this “creation myth” from Dan Warren. Using thousands of clips culled from Barack Obama’s audio book, then cut and pasted together to form a new narrative, Warren “tells the story of an ugly dog-faced demigod who recreates the world after it is destroyed.” The 9-part story is about 30 minutes long in total and “lies in some weird grey area between audiobook and electronic music.”The Biblically-influenced tale of Stanley, born from an Adam-like character, a proto-man, plays with the themes and conventions of the Greatest Story Ever Told. It chronicles the world’s creation via a falling monkey, the rise of civilization and the birth of Stanley, a deformed orphan son-woman who is to be our savior. Desolate, s/he wanders the earth as the world descends into war. Gods come down to earth, the world starts pouring blood and it all gets a bit Revelations-y. Stanley meets the cosmic turtle who supports the world, and even he can’t help to save the world’s ruin, so they go find Buddha, but he’s not much cop either. Stanley then realizes he has the power to create worlds, does so, and proceeds to fall asleep on his mother’s lap. Or something like that. All narrated by the rich and resonant voice of the 44th President of the United States. It took Warren four years to create this mash-up of Obama’s life story. He cut the audio into very short ten word sentences and collaged them back together into this epic tale. The final product features accompanying music which includes found sound and scratchin’, and the whole thing is being animated by different artists. Chapters One and Two are below, animated by Ainsley Seago and Adam Bozarth respectively. If you want to download the full thirty minute opus, you can do so from the The Something Awful Forums, where he originally posted about the project, along with some chapter summaries.Chapter One: CreationChapter Two: The Golden Age[via Waxy.org]
