There’s never been as many ways to make music as there is today, but if you’re bored of playing it safe using a computer or an instrument, how about bringing some added danger into the mix by creating music using radiation?That’s the concept behind the Radioactive Orchestra which aims to get the kids involved in science through this nuclear music, as well as exploring the musical properties of radioactive isotopes. The collaboration between nuclear physicists, DJ Axel Boman, and media artist Kristofer Hagbard gives each of the 3,175 radioactive isotopes a sound based on algorithms making “a world available to us that our senses cannot otherwise perceive.”They result is a system which is a kind of “piano that radiation can play” which produces strange, haunting sci-fi-esque sounds and melodies.
