The app stores are teeming with new releases, but who has time to go through them all? We do. Bringing you a selection of the most interesting, creative, and innovative apps each week. Submit your suggestions for next week in the comments below.iMaschine [iPhone, iPod touch and iPad]If you’re into stripping down music-making and keeping it nice and simple, here’s a beat sketch pad that lets you make music on the fly in real-time using drum kits, synths, bass, and plenty more. You can also record your voice and edit using the app’s tools. It’s compatible with its bigger bro, Native Instruments’MASCHINE, so you can finish up a track on that, should you wish. But spontaneity is the idea here, letting you experiment as the muse takes hold of you. Jamie Liddell seems convinced.KITTY! [iPad]If you don’t own a cat but you’re pining for that kitty experience, or you want that soothing sense of companionship while away from home, then rejoice—the virtual world has once again come to your rescue. You can stroke this digital pet or poke it, eliciting responses like a purr or a hiss like a real kitty might do. It even has virtual fur that moves when touched, though it isn’t quite as cuddly as the real thing. So if it’s all getting too much and you need some de-stressing, then this next level cat may be just the thing. Whether it’ll have its own dedicated YouTube channel remains to be seen.Minecraft – Pocket Edition [Android]
Unable to leave your computer because you can’t bear to tear yourself away from Minecraft? We know, we’ve been there too. This app may just be the good news you’ve been waiting for—it’ll let you feed your addiction wherever you are, letting you continue to construct while you’re out and about, with 36 different kinds of blocks giving you the freedom to build whatever the hell you like. No longer will you have to socially engage with friends, and your obsession no longer has to end when you leave the house.
Zappar [iPhone and iPad]
Ok, so this brand new augmented reality channel doesn’t have a great deal on it at the moment, but it’s still relatively early and they’re promising some interesting releases in the future. One of the reasons we’ve got our eye on it is because it’ll be the platform where design agency Dentsu will be featuring their AR toys Suwappu (which Zappar helped develop) when they’re released next year.Forever Drive [iPhone and iPad]With a nod to the neons ofTronand the relentless driving of films likeVanishing Point, this is a driving game where you never stop. An endless road is created by the users using a track editor—like a virtual Scalextric track. The creations are then joined together to create a road without end, so you can careen onwards, whizzing past checkpoints and racing against a timer to earn points.
