American national Bobby Wood has been putting up more than a decent showing for his country lately, but had been on a bit of a dry spell with his Bundesliga club Hamburg. In fact, it's been since September 10 that he's netted a goal. But boy did he make up for that today against Mainz with an absolute scorcher.Wood was involved in the buildup, as he chipped a ball to his teammate two passes before receiving what would eventually be an assist. Wood found himself splitting two Mainz defenders with a little bit of running room and launched off one of those beautifully struck balls that lifts both feet off the ground in a balletic twist. And it was true—near post, with a helpless keeper parsing out how it got past him.Unfortunately for Wood and gang, Mainz came back with a ferocious three goals to silence the away side. A little tricky for Wood to have found a hat trick in him with that much rust on the boot.
