You've Never Hated a Ringtone More Than Nokia's "Dubstep Edition"

I don't think I have anything to say about Skrillex and the rise of gross American nu-metal reimagined as "dubstep" that hasn't been said before. It's gross! And getting grosser. We've finally reached the sound's totally inescapable phase and it's all...

I don't think I have anything to say about Skrillex and the rise of gross American nu-metal reimagined as "dubstep" that hasn't been said before. It's gross! And getting grosser. We've finally reached the sound's totally inescapable phase and it's all downhill from here. God help us all.

Nokia had a competition to reimagine its signature ringtone, composer Francisco Tarrega's Grande Valse, which the company claims is the first musical ringtone ever loaded onto a cell phone. This is what won, the "Nokia Tune Dubstep Edition":

I love how the guy that made it, Valerio Alessandro Sizzi (pictured), who won $10,000 for that thing you just listened to, explains his dubstep edition. From the Nokia blog: "I made a dubstep version of the Nokia Tune because the style has become massively popular during the last two years." Which sounds kinda like I don't give much of a shit and wanted to win.

Anyhow, this is just the beginning. We've fully entered the moment where the corporate world has detected the blood in the water of something the mainstream considers to be new and hip, which means that we've got about two years or so of "dubstep edition" everything.

Anyhow, I'm personally pretty stoked for Sizzi. Not only does he have a great name, but I get the feeling he's laughing his ass off about this right now. Not even like a sinister laugh, but more of a you people are all idiots and I have $10,000 to prove it laugh.
