Himuro Yoshiteru And The Sounds Of Heavy Sentimentality

Listening through the Japanese producer’s newest album Our Time, Anytime

Himuro Yoshiteru started out in 1998 on a little known label called Worm Interface, best known for previously releasing a B-side by a young Tom Jenkinson (you know him today as Squarepusher) on Dragon Disc 2. Since then, Yoshiteru has released seven more records on various labels, the most recent of which is a collection of absolute killers on Oilworks entitled, Our Turn, Anytime.

His compositions are intense, cinematic works with a synthetic edge—Amon Tobin meets Tipper. Heavy though they might be, Yoshiteru’s large and sweeping percussion lines are balanced out by playful melodies, lacing the drama with a strain of sentimentality.

Director TAKCOM gave Yoshiteru’s “REM Sleep” a mildly seizure-inducing video treatment. See below.
