There’s nothing like a time-lapse video to convey the awe and majesty of nature, helping to contain its splendor in a handy video-sized chunk. While it’s a technique that is by no means underutilized and is often forgiving enough to make average footage look impressive, this also means that it takes a certain skill to produce something truly exceptional. Someone who does that particularly well is photographer Terje Sorgjerd, and his latest effort is a luxury eye-candy of a video shot atop Spain’s highest mountain, El Teide; an active volcano located on the island of Tenerife, which is also the location of one of the world’s best observatories Teide Observatories. In Sorgjerd’s film, called The Mountain, you can see Teide is so highly regarded. He’s captured stunning sequences that show the glittering Milky Way streaming brilliantly across the sky’s alternating canvas, along with other striking footage recorded from this god’s-eye-view, like waves of undulating clouds that arch and sway off the side of the mountain like a billowing sea. There’s also stunning landscape shots of gleaming crystal blue skies and stark greenery, giving the film an almost hyperreal look.Sorgjerd also captured some fantastic footage of the aurora borealis shot at Kirkenes and Pas National Park in Norway, which border Russia. The result is another beautiful mastery of the time-lapse technique, displaying footage of both the night sky and incredible snowy landscapes.
