Lineker Destroys MacDonald and Calls for Title Shot

After constantly frustrating fans with his failure to make weight at flyweight, John Lineker announced himself as a contender in the bantamweight division with an emphatic first round knockout victory over Michael 'Mayday' MacDonad in the UFC Sioux Falls main event.

The Brazilian connected with a right hook on the two-minute mark that dropped MacDonad. The former interim title contender got back on his feet only to eat a powerful right uppercut from 'Hands of Stone'. As 'Mayday' retreated to the fence, Lineker chased him down and caught with a left hook that sent him down. He dropped a handful of hammer fists to complete the task.

After delivering his post-fight interview in Portuguese, Lineker fixed his stare on the camera and roared for a meeting with bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz.

After collecting three wins in as many outings as a UFC bantamweight, Lineker could very well enter the championship fray given the potency of his hands as displayed in the main event.

Ferguson Calls for Alvarez after Dealing with Tricky Debutant Vannata

A late replacement for Michael Chiesa, Landon Vannata was somewhat of an unknown quantity coming into the co-main event, but he made a big impression in his UFC debut by causing Tony Ferguson a lot of trouble during the first round of their clash.

The debutant rocked 'El Cucuy' with a spinning back fist, among several other big shots landed, as the streaking lightweight found his feet. Vannata may have been a victim of his own confidence as he stood with his hands down as Ferguson advanced.

His bloody nose was smashed by Superman punch as he chased 'El Cucuy' down, and as soon as he opened up his neck in a scramble, Ferguson locked in a D'arce choke to finish the contest in the second round.

In his post-fight interview, Ferguson, who increased his win streak to eight with the victory, called for a date with the newly crowned lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez.

"Give me that title shot!" he said. "Eddie Alvarez, I know you don't want to fight me. If you want an easy night go ahead and get Conor (McGregor), but I'm right here at your front door and I'm ready to sign on the dotted line."

Patient Boetsch Finishes Samman in Round Two

Tim Boetsch showed great poise in the first round of his clash with Josh Samman and he eventually finished the TUF 17 alum with heavy ground and pound in the second.

Samman looked sapped after spending the majority of the first round in the clinch with the 35-year-old. As he tired, his offense became labored and Boetsch took the action to the deck after countering a body kick. When he took mount with Samman pressed against the fence the writing was on the wall and 'The Barbarian' forced the stoppage just shy of the last minute of the second.

Omielanczuk grinds out Decision over Oleinik

Alexey Oleinik is one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the UFC on the ground, but Daniel Omielanczuk took his best before delivering steady ground and pound that won him a decision.

Oleinik dominated the first round with two takedowns and some nasty shots delivered under his crushing top control. After a beautiful transition in the second round that saw him move from 50/50 into a scarf hold choke, the Russian faded steadily towards the end as Omielanczuk pulverized him from top position and in the striking exchanges.

Nakamura Taps Noke

Despite coming out on the wrong end of a decision, Keita Nakamura showed everyone how much of tricky customer can be on his return to UFC in London where he frustrated British welterweight on his home soil.

The Japanese fighter probably lost the first round on the judges scorecards, but with a minute left in the second, he dropped his Australian counterpart to the canvas. He battered Noke from mount before taking his back, and eventually, the TUF vet tapped with a second left on the clock to a rear naked choke.

Louis Smolkes Nguyen

Louis Smolka hopes that the four fight win streak he now boasts following his second round win over Ben Nguyen will be enough to see him face Wilson Reis for an interim flyweight title after news emerged that Demetrious Johnson suffered an injury ahead of UFC 201.

'The Last Samurai' had to weather an early storm from Nguyen, but when he eventually controlled top position he rained down on his opponent with elbows. Setting up a D'arce choke with elbows in the first round, in the second, he sacrificed position to drop back for a foot lock. When he took mount, he battered Nguyen with elbows until Herb Dean waved him off.

Prelims

In the featured prelims bout, UFC newcomer Katlyn Chookagian really stepped up to the mark in her short notice bout against experienced bantamweight Lauren Murphy. The Renzo Gracie Academy fighter utilized her jab excellently throughout the fight, and frustrated Murphy over the fifteen minutes to claim the unanimous decision win.

'Smilin' Sam' Alvey made short work of UFC newcomer Eric Spicely when he caught the debutant in a guillotine choke midway through the first round of their clash. Alvey underlined his belief that his training partner Dan Henderson would topple middleweight champion Michael Bisping in their title fight in his post-fight interview and campaigned for a spot on the card, which is expected to happen in Manchester.

We knew that Cortney Casey was a force to reckoned with despite claiming losses in her first two UFC outings against Joanne Calderwood and Seo Hee Ham, but she proved it again with a first round TKO over Cristina Stanciu. Casey battered Stanciu with elbows from mount and from the back to claim the stoppage at the midway point of the first round.

Scott Holtzman bounced back from suffering his professional loss in his UFC debut to Drew Dober back in January with a unanimous decision win over Cody Pfister to open the prelims. The former hockey player banked a solid three rounds but strangely seemed to get easily swept each time he gained mount on 'The Pfist'.

Fight Pass Prelims

The second and final bout on the exclusive Fight Pass prelim card saw Rani Yahya retain is unbeaten status in his fourth test in the Octagon when he finished Matthew Lopez in the final minute of their fight with an arm triangle.

After escaping various submission attempts throughout the bout, Lopez looked completely drained when he ended up in side control in the final minute. Yahya effortlessly transitioned into the choke to gain the tap.

Alex Nicholson put an exclamation point on his first win under the UFC banner when he put Devin Clark's lights out with a right hand to the temple with just three seconds left on the clock. 'The Spartan' evaded an early arm triangle attempt from the debuting Clarke, which will make the victory the sweeter.
