Patrick Kane Scores Outrageous Game-Winner in Double OT

Patrick Kane scored a heck of a goal to keep the Blackhawks alive in the playoffs.

The St. Louis Blues came back from a 3-1 deficit after two periods of play, which included a last-second goal from Artemi Panarin at the end of the second, to force the Hawks into two extra periods. With St. Louis leading the series at 3-1, and erasing a two-goal Chicago lead, it looked like the Blackhawks were cooked. But the sides skated to a stalemate in the first overtime period, and then, about three minutes into the second overtime period, Patrick Kane started snaking his way around the ice.

He almost scored on a wrap around on his first pass by the Blue net; it was turned away but Chicago kept it in the zone and Kane singlehandedly moved through four Blues players who looked like they must have been passed out on their skates. One guy just fell down, the other three just sort of stood upright and watched as Kane twisted and stick-handled through them. His shot almost sneaked past Brian Elliott, but he got his stick on it, deflecting off his own pads. The puck dribbled to the near side of the net and went just wide of the post. No one, including Elliot, seemed to know where it went except for Kane. He tracked it the whole time and curled around the net to sweep it back into what was now a wide-open net. Watching it in real time—it almost looked like he passed it to himself.

The goal was Kane's fifth overtime goal in the playoffs, which is as specific a stat as it is impressive. It ties Glenn Anderson for third all-time; only Joe Sakic and Maurice Richard have scored more.

Game 6 is Saturday night at 8 PM in Chicago.
