ISIS Says 'Soldier' Carried Out NYC Attack
The terrorist group's newsletter claimed "one of the soldiers of the Caliphate" was behind the attack in Manhattan on Halloween. Although suspect Sayfullo Saipov allegedly consulted ISIS material online, one official said "there is no apparent tie to international terrorism" and suggested ISIS was "just trying to take credit."—ABC News

Trump's Twitter Account Disappeared… for a While
The @realDonaldTrump account was briefly deactivated shortly before 7 PM EST Thursday when a Twitter staffer took it down on their last day at work. The company said a "customer support employee" was to blame.—Motherboard

GOP Finally Unveils Tax Plan
House Republicans introduced the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Thursday, a plan that could increase the deficit by more than $1 trillion. The bill would slash the corporate tax rate to 20 percent, eliminate some deductions, and reduce the number of individual tax brackets from seven to four. It also proposes the tax rate on money multinationals move back to the US from overseas is cut from 35 percent to just 12 percent.—VICE News

US Gun Deaths Are on the Rise
The number of gun deaths rose from around 36,000 in 2015 to more than 38,000 last year, according to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although most of the deaths were suicides, the number of gun-related homicides has also risen, from around 9,600 in 2015 to almost 11,000 last year.—AP

Syrian Army Claims to Push ISIS Out of Deir al Zor
President Bashar al Assad's military announced it "liberated" Deir al Zor from the Islamist militants who have controlled it since 2014. Although the city was the last major bastion for ISIS in Syria, the army is now moving to retake the smaller town of Albu Kamal.—Reuters

North Korea Accuses 'Gangster' US of Nuclear Threat
Responding to the flight of two US B-1 bombers along the Korean Peninsula early Friday, North Korean state news said the "gangster-like US imperialists are ceaselessly resorting to their frantic nuclear threat." The outlet added that the planes were there to "stage a surprise nuclear strike drill targeting North Korea."—VICE News

Catalans Protest Ousted Political Leaders
Catalan separatists gathered in Barcelona to demonstrate against the jailing of eight former members of the dismissed regional government Thursday. Although they haven't been charged, the high court judge deemed the eight politicians a flight risk. Spanish officials are set to issue an arrest warrant for the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, still in Belgium, but he will fight extradition. - BBC News/VICE News

Five Imprisoned in Australia for Terrorist Plot
After two men and a teenager were found guilty of planning terrorist attacks on a police building in Sydney and a prison in Lithgow, the group's leader, Sulayman Khalid, was sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison.—The Sydney Morning Herald

The actress, perhaps best known for her role in Boardwalk Empire, said the Hollywood producer raped her at her apartment twice in 2010. NYPD investigators have interviewed De la Huerta and were apparently mulling charges.—Vanity Fair

The music legend's 20-year-old son was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles Thursday, reportedly the result of an accident on a motorbike. Jackson shared a photo of himself in an ambulance with the message: "Well shit…"—Billboard
