Those Dancing Days in Stockholm Tonight

Images by Gavin Watson

Those Dancing Days are playing at the Grolsch Block Party at 9pm tonight, which we saw as the perfect excuse to catch up with them and, ultimately, get invited to an all girl sleepover pajama party before they grow out of their cutesy All Girl Summer Fun Band suit and turn into Sleater Kinney, or the Runaways or something. Or the

Skate witches!

Do you hate each other after five years of being on the road together?

Rebecka: No, we've become like siblings.

Siblings fight.

Mimmi: Siblings as in we trust each other and we're in the same boat. None of our friends know what it's like to be on tour.

Cissi: It's much worse to be apart. When we came home from last tour and didn't spend much time together, I felt as if something was missing.

Last time we spoke you were going to China. Tell me a little story about that.

Linnea: Well, we wanted to go shopping and tried to ask around to find a place to go to, but no one understood what we meant. Finally, the taxi driver pointed at his suit and nodded eagerly. We thought: "Yes! At last." But then he took us to his tailor.

Bummer. Will there be a new album out soon?

Mimmi: Yeah, it will be very Latino. Just kidding.

Rebecka: We've developed as musicians and, perhaps it's a stupid thing to say, but I must be honest, we're really tired of playing the old songs.

Linnea: Yeah, and I think everyone exaggerated. We were so cute with our bubblegum and sunshine and sweet-as-apple-pie pop. The new album is much harder. Although, that's what we said about our first album after the EP too. But it's much more real now, I know exactly what I sing and what every sentence means.

How do you get so much energy on stage? Do you pig out on carbs?

Cissi: I see every show like an important game. So I try to work out and have good stamina. In fact, I do eat spaghetti the day before and then empty two bottles of energy drinks, and do some exercises before going on stage.

Linnea: You do? If I eat spaghetti I vomit. And two energy drinks?! My trick is a good night's sleep.

Mimmi: I try to save all my energy for when I'm on stage. So I don't hang out with friends before because that takes a lot of energy, even if it lifts the show tremendously if they're in the audience supporting us.

Are you excited about the show tonight?

Linnea: Yes! It feels so good to play in Stockholm and, for once, our name is on the poster! That almost never happens. Apparently the stage is small, so it'll probably be a very intimate. Even if it rains everyone must come.
