EXPENSIVE CHINESE FOOD AND A NEW VIDEO

Comanechi have a new video. It's really high-budget and came with catering. All this and more, in a behind-the-scenes interview with the makers of.

Lamo Wizard

are video-making duo Amy Leverton and

Skill Wizard

head-honcho and

Invasion

riff-machine Marek Steven. They have just finished

Comanechi

's new video. Do you have no idea what any of that means but are a nosy person? Then read our chat with them, in which they explain themselves, Chinese takeaways with free fruit, and "trends" in denim.

Vice: Hey guys, you've just done the new Comanechi video. That's fun.

Marek Steven:

Yes, we have loved them a long time and it took a long time to do it, but we're happy with it.They let us choose which track to do a video for, which was pretty cool as I was literally a groupie for ages after I heard one of their tracks, "Secret." It's got the best doom riffs since

Dopethrone

, but it's not on the album.

Amy Leverton:

Yep. We first listened to the track on the album and we were both pretty "wow" about that track. In fact, the whole process was very chilled like that. We worked our asses off, but it was relaxed the whole way through. We wanted to work with them for ages. I actually remember the first time Simon and Marek actually chatted; it was special.

Marek:

I was like, "Er, er, I really like your band, what are your influences!?" He said, "Sleep and Electric Wizard." It was love.

Really? Does that mean you technically chose the single then? Marek:

I guess so, yeah

. Amy:

Yes! We rule them! I think we talked about that at the time, like, "Wow, if we do a good video then that'll have to be their single."

Marek:

No one releases actual singles anyway.

The video was pretty expensive, I hear. Marek:

It was for us, ha ha. It probably cost about £250

. Amy:

It was about £200, but we also spent a fair bit on Chinese takeaway at the editor's house.

£50 on Chinese food? Marek:

You got free fruit with it.

Amy:

We went so many times they gave us free fruit salad.

Doesn't sound like that was "free." How was Akiko? Marek:

On the day she was predictably hilarious, yeah.

Amy:

She was on a diet as it was

Shot By Kern

the next day. Akiko, despite being very cool, is actually super enthusiastic to work with and very complimentary.

Marek: "

I've been up five days partying." Ha ha. She has amazing stories.

Is this the first video you've made together, then? Marek:

No, I've made doom promos for Ramesses and stuff and Amy and I did a few. She has awesome ideas and we have EXACTLY the same taste so it's really easy. We've done Frankmusik, Armand Van Helden, Black Ghosts with Damon Albarn.

Does Armand Van Helden still look like Ali G?

Marek:

He wasn't in it, it was just chicks.

Amy:

We did pin pictures of him in strategic places around the shoot. He's very Ali-G-like.

What's next for team Lamo Wizard then? Amy:

We're about to embark on a video for Japanese legends-to-be,

Bo Ningen

. We are really excited about it.I have tons of footage of them at various gigs going ape shit. Last gig I filmed, I got whacked in the eye by a low-flying Yuki with a guitar.

Marek:

We want to do more bigger budget stuff for people we like next year. We have loads of confidence. It's going to authetically 70s. Like a TV performance from '72, with added violence.

Amy:

They all look rad with super long black straight hair and psychedelic bell-bottoms.

You guys are big on bell-bottoms, huh? Maybe if you push them enough, people will start wearing them again. Marek:

I wear them. People will wear them by 2015, trust me.

Amy:

Yep, 70s is something I think (I hope) is gonna be big again. I work in trend prediction, specifically in denim and I've been saying to Marek for a while now: "Your time is coming!"

Marek:

Yeah, it's already coming in strong; the flares will come in when it peaks. And back to Comanechi – their main influence is Electric Wizard, who have worn flares since '92. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Comaenchi's new album is out on 30 November.
