Animal-rights activists liberated 35,000 minks from fur farms last week in Galicia, Spain. They meant it as an act of kindness towards the poor imprisoned animals. They didn't realise that the minks were raised in captivity and therefore lacked the skills for surviving in the wild. Over 70 per cent of the minks died during their short-lived adventure, and the ones who survived now threaten to disrupt the ecosystem (the captive minks were an American species that pose a danger to the survival of their European cousins).
