Donald Trump Just Tweeted a Propaganda Video That Uses Dialogue and Music from ‘Mass Effect 2’

Is this real life? Is this just fantasy? Sometimes, on the internet, it's just too hard to tell if someone's taking the piss or not.

Screengrab via YouTube

Donald Trump is currently running for the Republican nomination in the race to be the next President of the United States. A lot of people like him. A lot of people don't. That's normal for politics. What's not is a leading candidate tweeting a video celebrating their policies set to music, and dialogue, from a video game.

Compare and contrast, at your leisure. The first clip below is the trailer for Mass Effect 2, a sci-fi adventure game made by BioWare that came out in 2010 and that I enjoyed very much indeed, thank you. It features voice acting from, among others, Martin Sheen, who plays the Illusive Man, the shady head of Cerberus – an organisation that is either a bunch of terrorists or a collective fighting for humanity's survival amongst the stars, depending on who you ask.

The second clip is "Trump Effect", made by the vid.me user of the same name and posted to YouTube on March 30th. Today, April 4th, Donald Trump tweeted the video to his 7.43 million followers.

(If the YouTube clip is removed, click here to watch the Trump video. It also still plays in his tweet.)

Now, that's not something you see every day, is it? Is the "Trump Effect" video a genuine attempt to make Donald's somewhat shonky politick seem somehow epic? Or is it a piss-take in disguise, one gigantic trolling effort? I can't tell, but it is most certainly A Thing That Has Happened. And it's a thing that has got at least one veteran BioWare staffer, Manveer Heir, confused and cheesed off.
