L.A.'s Got Talent

Here’s a fun game: Test the true limits of your sexuality at a dance party! You’re gay? Are you sure? Positive you’re straight? Hmmm... Let’s find out.

Here’s a fun game: Test the true limits of your sexuality at a dance party! You’re gay? Are you sure? Positive you’re straight? Hmmm… Let’s find out.

Tonight’s Totally Gay Night marks the middle of a two-week series of miscellaneous weirdness called L.A.’s Got Talent. Sean Carnage is putting on all these bizarro events, which include everything from a druid film festival to stand-up comedy to an all-black (as in food, not people) demon banquet to noise and fashion shows. He took a minute to tell us what’s been going on.

VICE: You're at the halfway point. How's it going?
Sean Carnage: Too well. I had to take a nap for 20 minutes before answering this question, no joke. I'm exhausted keeping up with all this talent!

Want to gimme some highlights of the last few days?
Noise schmoise. Leah Peah is the best, and she proved it with a tantric sound implosion at the opening. Last night (Comedy Night) curators Sam Lubicz, Liam Morrison, and I hosted an evening with Da Mudd Duck Crew and Rick Shapiro, who is awesome—he's like a poet-comedian. He battled a heckler—physically at one point (Echo Park is rough). I like it when artists get involved, you know? Tonight we are gonna rave til dawn.

Yeah, I love that you and Totally Mag are challenging people's sexualities tonight. How will people know if they are truly straight or gay?
You really can't know unless you experiment, and that's what this series is all about. It's dark in the Sancho backyard so I guess we'll only know who's gay and straight when the lights come up at the end.

How did you find all these weirdos involved?
It's been a life's journey for sure. What can I say? It's my art. The famous are boring to me. I focus on the people who have a direct, daily impact on me. My life's been pretty strange and, ergo, so are my friends. If you invest something with importance, does it become important? Sometimes the scale is small, but I'm happy to report that the things you believe in do become "important"--every single time. Reality is self-actualized.

Agreed.
