"Watch Your Back" is a wiry new number by Altanta post-punk trio The Coathangers, written after what they called a "challenging, fascinating, and enlightening" tour of Japan. It makes a lot of sense that they would say that considering how closely this latest song recalls bands like Deerhoof or Shonen Knife, both similarly influenced by the cross section between Japanese minimalism and American punk.

On "Watch Your Back," The Coathangers seem to have refined their brash and bratty punk songs into something more sophisticated, yet just as sharp. The single is featured on a limited edition split with fellow Atlantans The Black Lips, out Friday via Suicide Squeeze. Pre-order it here.

The band also had this to say about the video for "Watch Your Back," premiering below:

“The video for ‘Watch Your Back’ is an inside look at us in the studio recording our new album, and a glimpse of our adventures on the road in between recording sessions. It’s a visual diary of what we have been doing for the past year—writing, playing, touring, recording and celebrating. It’s been a while since we actually appeared in our own videos for more than just a cameo. It's kind of evidence that we still exist!"
