Taco Leg - 'Taco Leg' Album Stream and Music Video Premiere

Smartly written rock songs that make you want to do dumb things.

Taco Leg is (L-R): Andrew Murray, Clare Weeden, and Richard Ingham. Not pictured is Simon Morrison, who plays on the album but recently left the band (on good terms).

I know you're not supposed to judge a band by its name like you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover or whatever, but I totally did anyway, which is why I knew I would like Taco Leg even before I gave them a listen. Because let's be real, there are few things in life better than a taco (especially if it's got spicy pork in it). And what is a "taco leg," anyway? Perhaps it was the intrigue of two seemingly unrelated words put together that perked my curiosity, or maybe it's just a really dumb name and I liked it for that reason.

Whatever the case, the band's name is not as important as its music. Taco Leg is an Australian trio that hails from Perth, which is an area I'm completely unfamiliar with as far as music scene and history go. Apparently, at least one band is doing something right, because Taco Leg's new album sounds like the rebellious problem-child of 70s UK punks and riot grrrls. This is like music my friends would discover first and then share with me because "you'd be into this" and "this sounds like the kind of music you listen to." Totally. Thanks to Fan Death Records for getting in touch with me about this release, because it's all I'm ever going to listen to… ever.

The self-titled full-length contains 11 tracks but is only a little over 17 minutes long, which means most of them are under 2 minutes, wasting no time and getting straight to the point. And the lyrics are just as straightforward, with lines like "Why didn't you come? This is dumb" and "I wish I had stayed home and watched TV." I love smartly written rock songs that make you want to do dumb things—like I am drinking a beer and eating sour patch kids right now, feeling kind of silly but mostly not giving a flying fuck about anything. Anyway, we've got the full album stream here; I'll shut up about it so you can listen for yourself:

It rules, right? Well, we are also premiering the band's music video for their album opener, "Raiders," which will make you go: "IS THIS A FUCKING JOKE?" I don't know, but I am actually laughing out loud, so maybe. It's kind of like Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark if Harrison Ford had turned down the role and they had absolutely no production money. So, yeah.

Enjoy. High five.
