Mos Def Undergoes Guantanamo Bay's Force-feeding Procedure in Shocking Campaign Video

To mark the start of Ramadan, Yasiin Bey aka. Mos Def takes part in this powerful video to raise awareness about the forced enteral feeding used on the camp's hunger strikers.

Ahead of Ramadan, Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, has voluntarily undergone the forced enteral feeding used on hunger strikers at Guantánamo Bay, in a video to raise awareness about the controversial practice. The four-minute film by Human Rights organisation Reprieve, is directed by BAFTA winner Asif Kapadia and shows Bey being put into a restraint chair, before medical staff insert a feeding tube into his nostril in order to deposit the feed directly into his stomach. After an unsuccessful first attempt Bey is too distressed to carry on.

Currently, 106 inmates are on hunger strike at Guantánamo Bay in protest at their prolonged detention without trial, 44 of which are being fed against their will and four are legally challenging the US government for persisting the practice throughout Ramadan.

Be warned, it does make for distressing viewing and I sincerely hope anyone falling over themselves to make a LOL about it has to eat through a tube up their nose for the rest of their life.
