We Chatted to Ghostpoet About Jeans

We caught up with him to chat about his project with Levis and ask for some fashion tips.

Ahead of a collaborative project with Levis, Ghostpoet will be attempting to answer the question "what moves you?", alongside Koreless and Alex Turvey, by drawing on the trio's knowledge of music, literature, and visual art, all culminating in a one off event for their fans.

With that in mind we caught up with him to ask how it was all going and to get some fashion tips.

Hey man, it’s Errol from Noisey. How’s it going?

Not too bad. Not too bad at all.

You been up to much today?

I'm in a rehearsal at the moment but it’s cool.

Are jeans a big part of your life?

Jeans. I guess so. I didn’t really many pairs of jeans for a while and I just started getting back into them through Levis and also just wanting to feel a little bit older. I feel manly wearing jeans.

Are we talking bootcut or slim fit?

Slim fit nowadays. I’ve lost a bit weight and they seem to work for me.

“Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson or “In Those Jeans” by Ginuwine?

Neither.

Why not?

Cos people would choose both of them, I choose none of them.

What made you want to get involved in the Levis project?

I thought it was interesting because I like the idea of collaboration that’s a bit different from the norm when it’s not necessarily just one musician working with another musician. The idea of having three people coming together to create an audio-visual experience felt cool to do. Also, to get have something away from the Ghostpoet stuff.

What would you say is your secondary creative outlet?

Everything I do is pretty much music but I have a show on NTS once a month and I have various projects on the go including audio-visual stuff. Writing bits for other people. I like the idea of doing stuff away from the Ghostpoet stuff that may inspire me later.

You must be pretty stoked to have worked with Alex Turvey and Koreless?

I’ve known Koreless for a couple of years. He did a remix for my first record, so I've known him for a while. Alex is a great guy. I’ve never met him but I’ve admired his work so it’s a nice trio. The ideas have really flowed so I'm really looking forward to the end result.

Have you got a fashion pet hate?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Fashion is a very subjective thing so I wouldn’t say I have a pet hate. I'm happy with fashion people being very individual. Their personality can be magnified and displayed through fashion.

What’s your favourite pair of footwear?

At the moment, probably boots. Boots and jeans. Maybe I'm turning into a cowboy or maybe I was one in a former life.

Were you ever a trainers man?

I’ve never really been into trainers if I'm honest. I wear them for fitness purposes but I’ve never really been a trainer person.

Would you have any style advice?

Style, again, is so subjective but I think it’s important to be yourself and express yourself. In anything in life, I think it’s important to let your own personality sprout forth and be free. If you wanna wear neon clothing to work when you have to wear a suit, do that. So long as you don’t get fired

Straight from the psalms of Ghostpoet, I like that. Thanks man.
