Grouplove are not about orgies, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your sexual stance), but there are a lot of feelgood vibes oozing out of their music. Take "Borderlines & Aliens," above, which combines pummeled beats (in particular, please observe the the earth-quivering drum fill at two minutes 16 seconds), some gnarly 90s riffage, and Christian and Hannah's duel vocals which conjure the image of the real life couple bellowing their respective parts from the top of two separate mountains.
The Anglo-American band released their second album, Spreading Rumours, this past fall and they hit the Stateside highway later this week. To celebrate this we asked singer/guitarist Christian about his firsties and faves.First drug experience
It was smoking weed the day before high school. We rolled it in a dollar bill which is pretty funny. Before that I thought my first drug experience was when Phillies Blunt was big back in the day. We just smoked a cigar thinking that would get us high—like there was weed in it already! That time we all just got sick and wanted to throw up.Favorite sensation:
Submersing myself in hot water. Closing my eyes and pretending I don't know where I am—like I'm waking up from a kidnapping—and opening my eyes really slowly.First serious injury:
Flipping over the handlebars of my bike. I was going no hands down a hill and my front tyre hit something and I flipped over and cracked my skull open. I don't really remember it to this day. I was eight and my friend who was with me basically saved my life. I was bleeding all over the street and he dragged me to the side and called an ambulance. I was in the hospital for a couple of days. I had a concussion and I forgot what transpired.Favorite person:
Hannah Hooper! She's my soulmate and ever since I met her my life has changed for the better. We're on this crazy rollercoaster ride together that's been amazing. She's the love of my life.First time you barfed from booze:
That was also the summer before ninth grade. My friends and I all went to the woods and drank 40s and I got through half of it and threw up everywhere and ended up in a pool with all my clothes on. I needed somewhere soft to lie down and being that I love water I got on a raft or something and I fell in. I remember coming out of the pool and finding a warm bed and being wasted and sleeping next to a wall and it was the best feeling.First unexpected boner:
In a hot tub when I was a little kid. It was the jet stream. I've never really spoken to friends about it, but actually the first time I masturbated was in that same hot tub! Haha! And the best part is I didn't use my hands! The jet stream was enough at a time.Favorite smell:
Lavender. I have memories picking it with my grandmother when I was a kid. Brings me right back. Favorite song on your record:
"Biting the Bullet." Playing it live I get to put down the guitar and run around like a madman with Hannah, and free up my body and jump and dance and throw myself into the audience. It's also new territory for us to explore.Favorite emoji:
My favorite one is probably the party sign. Or I like sending them to people who don't use emojis—like oh, this isn't cool, what are you doing?—and then eventually they start sending them back. That's my favorite thing. It's fun to just send people random images that make no sense.Favorite smell:
My basement in the house I grew up in. Or any basement on the East Coast. It's got that damp, dry and cold smell of the past—something super comforting about it.Favorite sound:
Chords on a guitar or a piano—when they make sense and they go together.Favorite thing to do on my day off:
Besides catch up on sleep. Wait let me ask Hannah. She says, have a bath. Also getting stoned.Grouplove Tour DatesMar 20 – Cincinnati, OH – Bogarts*Mar 21 – Indianapolis, IN – Egyptian Room*Mar 23 – Pittsburg, PA – Stage AE*Mar 25 – Philadelphia, PA – Electric Factory*^Mar 26 – New York, NY – Terminal 5^* - SOLD OUTMar 27 – New York, NY – Terminal 5^#Mar 29 – Columbus, OH – LC Indoor Stage^ – SOLD OUTMar 30 – Washington, DC – 930 Club^# - SOLD OUTMar 31 – Washington, DC – 930 Club^# - SOLD OUTApril 1 – Washington, DC – 930 Club^# - SOLD OUTApril 3 – Atlanta, GA – Tabernacle^#April 5 – Austin, TX – Stubbs^# - SOLD OUTApril 6 – Austin, TX – Stubbs^# - SOLD OUTApril 7 – Houston, TX – House of Blue^April 10 – Las Vegas, NV – Cosmopolitan HotelApril 11 – COACHELLA – Indio, CAApril 18 – COACHELLA – Indio, CAApril 22 – Pomona, CA – The Glass House^# – SOLD OUTApril 23 – Phoenix, AZ – Marquee^#April 24 – Tucson, AZ – Rialto Theatre^April 26 – Dallas, TX – Edgefest – FC Dallas StadiumApril 27 – Tulsa, OK – Brady Theater ^#April 28 – Oklahoma City – Diamond Ballroom^April 30 – Kansas City, MO – Power & Light District^#May 02 – Memphis, TN – Baele Street Music FestivalMay 03 – New Orleans, LA – House of Blues New Orleans^May 04 – Tampa, FL – Big Guava Fest – MIDFLORIDA Credit Union AmphitheaterJune 12 – BONNAROO – Manchester, TNJune 13 – BONNAROO – Manchester, TNJune 14 – BONNAROO – Manchester, TNJune 15 –BONNAROO – Manchester, TNJune 19 – FIREFLY FESTIVAL – Dover, DE^Supported by MS MR
