Not Cool: Yoko Ono is Publishing John Lennon's Personal Letters Exclusively as an App

To answer your question: no, nothing is sacred.

Earlier this fall, Little, Brown and Company published The Lennon Letters, a collection of the late Beatle's private letters to friends and family, as well as letters to magazines, newspapers, and organizations. When the book was first announced, the editor, Hunter Davies, encouraged anyone to send in letters from Lennon they would like to contribute. Davies left his HOTMAIL ADDRESS on an Exclaim! post.

So, the book came out and to great success—obviously. Because the Beatles are the Beatles are the Beatles and John Lennon is John Lennon. Simple.

Now, apparently, The Lennon Letters is going digital. It's becoming an app. In the Lennon app, readers can see all 78 letters from the original book, plus 10 never-before-seen additions and a foreword penned by none other than Yoko Ono. This is going to be an Apple exclusive and will include a soundtrack of Beatles tunes.

I hope in the foreword, Yoko explains who came up with this. Maybe it's because it's the Beatles, but it feels weird to have Lennon trapped in an app. However, would it feel weird if it were Drake or Taylor Swift? Probably not, because these stars are current and digital devices are an integral part of their lives, but Lennon famed in an app-less world. Is this project weird, or am I being an old fart? Call me "Grandma," but I'd rather have Lennon stay on real paper (for totally selfish, immature and nostalgic reasons).
