Perhaps you recognize the name Hank Sullivant. He's played guitar with MGMT (and was an early member of the Whigs, but as Kuroma he's found his groove working a bright and breezy psych-pop groove and whose debut album Kuromarama was produced by MGMT's Ben Goldwasser. The quartet currently on the road (kicking off tonight) in support of said record, playing on tours supporting Ex Hex, Tennis, Tame Impala—the latter of which is clearly a match made in heaven. The original of "20+Centuries" is zingy, kaleidoscopic kind of power pop with a herd of stallions stampeding all over it. But Jay Watson of Tame Impala cut, chopped, sauteed and stir-fried the stems of the song to make it totally unrecognizable, kicking off with a beat that's the spit of Rihanna's "Umbrella," Watson's rework is Ratatat on amphetamines, whirling on awarp speed merry-go-round. Jump aboard.
