Here Is 100 Percent Proof that Venus Williams Loves Rush, Classic Rock Karaoke

Venus Williams is secretly Canadian.

Tennis and karaoke have more in common than you may think. Both are much easier to do with friends, and both are a lot of fun when you're drunk or have been drinking. The other thing that these activities have in common is Venus Williams, who recently came out to Tennis Now about her love for singing in public. Her go-to? Canadian golden band, Rush.

TN: Reading your web site I was surprised to see one of your favorite karaoke songs was "Tom Sawyer" by Rush. That song probably came out before you were even born and is really demanding to sing. How did you get turned on to Tom Sawyer?

Venus: Yeah, Tom Sawyer was my favourite karaoke song from a couple of years ago. You know, that song works for me. It works for my pitch. When you get to karaoke, you've got to figure out what your pitch is and then go for it. I can't go too low. I'm a little bit better higher. Growing up, my parents had us listening to everything from all kind of genres. So I'm kind of open-minded toward all types of music.

Crazy news. Obviously being a Rush fan isn't the crazy part, since Rush is the best band in the world—but what's surprising is Williams' choice of "Tom Sawyer" as her song. There's nothing particularly wrong with the track, but you could do a lot better if you're looking for a good karaoke track. To put it in terms that the average Noisey reader can understand, choosing "Tom Sawyer" as your favourite Rush song is like choosing "Started From The Bottom" as your favourite Drake song. It's fine, but real heads know better. I'm partial to "Fly By Night" or "Limelight", but I feel like with Venus' range, she should go for "The Spirit of Radio" next time she steps to the mic. And apparently she steps to said mic often, as they are dozens of videos of her at karaoke shows. In addition to the video above showing her cover 311's "You Wouldn't Believe" there is also footage of Venus belting out "Possum Kingdom" from The Toadies and "Like A Prayer" by Madonna.
