Perhaps its the combination of Red Bull and Advil, or perhaps I’m just orbiting the sea of nostalgia that makes you just want to suck back black and white videos like oxygen in a thin atmosphere, but hot damn. This video is lovely. The best part? It’s all real footage. These days when we talk about space it’s all about the death of NASA, the end of the space shuttle, Hollywood moguls mining asteroids like Armageddon was a mission statement, and a whole lot of speculation about Goldilocks planets and whatnot that seem so distant and impersonal. What happened to staring at space books as a kid, seing Saturn’s incredibly smooth, flat rings and realizing that they’re real bits of rock swirling in circles for some unknown reason millions of miles away? As much as it’s a dream to write about and talk science all day, it’s nice to get the chance to sit back and just watch it all without wondering whether or not the soundtrack has been used before.
