Today You Play "Today I Die" - An Existential Indie Game

Because who says video games can’t be all deep and poetic.

Indie gaming is definitely on the rise, and here’s another great example of just why that is. This game was nominated for the Nuovo Award—which honours abstract and unconventional games—at the Independent Games Festival (IGF) 2010 and it’s called Today I Die. It comes from Argentinian game developer Daniel Benmergui with music by Hernán Rozenwasser, who describe it as a “game poem about the prison of world views, and salvation in playfulness.” It sees the protagonist falling and drowning while interacting with the various creatures and words that appear, all the while adding to a running poem that creates a narrative, moving from despair to transcendence.
