The Nationals took a 1-0 lead in this game way back in the third inning and held onto it until Pablo Sandoval tied the game with an RBI double in the top of the ninth. It remained scoreless through millennia and the separation of Pangaea until, finally, Brandon Belt hit a towering home run in the 18th inning to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. The Nationals went down relatively quietly in the bottom of the 18th: Danny Espinosa struck out swinging, Denard Span grounded to first, and Jayson Werth flied out to Hunter Pence in right field to end it.
