Natalie Nikitovic Made A Book Called 'As Is'

Documenting unstaged circumstances in her immediate environment.

Photographer Natalie Nikitovic has an interesting perspective (she's pretty tall) on a life that's not that unlike the rest of ours. Her book As Is launches today and we've enjoyed flipping through the crystalisations of unplanned circumstance printed within. To get a copy, take $15 to Rae & Bennett Fine Art Printers, 475 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy tonight between 6 and 9pm. If you're not in Melbourne, you can buy one by visiting her website.

VICE: Hey Nat. We like these pictures. Where and when were they taken?
Natalie: They were taken in my sleep. A good friend told me the other day that my hands have there own dance moves, when I talk, walk, debate or boogie. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my hands that hold my camera and take these photos while I'm sleeping.

Sure kiddo, if that's how you want to play it. One of our favourite pictures is the cat. Are correct in guessing that it's floating on the surface of some kind of cat jacuzzi?
I wish I could say your guessing is true. The cat is actually sitting on one of the very last hand made glass doors left on the Lower East Side in NYC. It's more like a door coffin. The cat liked it. Good sun baking sessions were had on that coffin, for the cat that is.

Last question. VICE has a blog series called Photographic Moratorium in which it puts a ban on photo cliches like smoke bombs in the forest and girls with milk poured over them. What cliches would you put a moratorium on?
I live for cliches. But if I had to chose, I would ban Fashion Editorials shot in Cemeteries. Is there need?

No. We don't suppose there is.
