The other day we at Vice obtained a letter that was apparently sent to all MP’s with the aim of raising awareness of Discrimination and Disadvantage Against Men. The two page letter was a call to arms for the male revolution, much like the suffragettes did in the 20s for the girls, this anonymous male is trying to get the rights for men to be heard during the upcoming election. The letter implies that us blokes are getting a raw deal, that we are oblivious to the injustices of modern day society, how women are favoured in almost every aspect of society and men are almost slaves helping to prop up our civilization. In some instances he has a point, for example “Men have to wait 5 years longer for the state pension at 65 and Men have to pay N.I for 5 years longer (44 years) and in other instances he is clearly mental “Men occupy more positions of authority but very often they put their own needs/welfare second due to gallantry – for example ‘women and children first’ in emergencies such as when the Titanic sank” When the Titanic sank? I imagine that phrase was fairly fictionalised and it was really an orgy of people fighting for their lives, not a group of men valiantly dooming themselves to death to save others, no ones that stupid. The more you read the letter, the more you try to build an image of its author, with comments on the misrepresentation of statistics on domestic abuse towards men, the glorification of violence towards males in the media, and ‘Aparthied’ esque segregation in public swimming pools, you have to imagine that he was bullied by girls at school and has a bit of a swimwear fetish. You can’t help but think that this could be one of those Fathers for Justice campaigners that were a humorous alternative to looser green activists scaling buildings, nothings funnier than watching a bloated Spiderman crawl rather than climb up Big Ben, is this Spiderman in disguise? The fact of the matter is that males still dominate most aspects of our society for example out of 645 mps only 126 are women, the banks, the army, civil service, health service are all ran by men, women are still fighting for equality across society and probably still have a bit off a way to go, the author is clearly a man scorned and probably hasn’t got laid in a while. Have a read for yourself and make your own mind up.
