Bernard Kerik, a man once called an American hero, isin the news again today. In addition to serving as police chief at the time of 9/11, Kerik trained the Iraqi police-force following the 2003 invasion, and was once nominated by President Bush for the job of Homeland Security Secretary. This nomination, which would have been the highlight of any career in public service, ultimately served to cause his downfall. During the vetting process, a proverbial shit-ton of skeletons came out of his closet. Among them: Kerik employed an illegal nanny (who doesn't?), had extramarital affairs, and took hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bribes. Apparently, these things are frowned upon. Last year, Kerik was indicted on account of lying to Bush Administration officials about these charges, as well as for not paying taxes and corruption. He pleaded guilty to these crimes and today was sentenced to a couple dozen months in white-collar prison. I know what you're thinking: "Big deal, another corrupt Republican, but why should I care?" Well, you should care because Kerik is a friend ofVice, at least in the Facebook sense of the term (i.e. everyone you meet once is a friend). You see, a while back, VBS correspondent Jason Mojicacaught up with Kerikand asked him about his past, his views on the War on Terror, and his legal problems. He said a lot of things you won't agree with (Bush did the right thing in Iraq, Giuliani would have been a great president, etc.). Also he shows us his really scary dogs. Watch the video, and then tell all your friends about how you knew about this case way before it was the top story on Yahoo.com.
