Canadians Have No Chill When It Comes to Netflix

Canadians really love to binge watch.

Even though Canada has long dealt with a smaller selection on Netflix compared to the US, new data released by the company shows that Canadians are some of the most obsessed with binge-watching globally.

In what Netflix calls a "binge racer"—a customer who "strive[s] to be the first to finish by speeding through an entire season within 24 hours of its release"—Canadians beat out all other customers percentage-wise. And in a twist that surprises no one, the top binge raced show on Canadian Netflix is Trailer Park Boys (RIP Mr. Lahey).

According to Netflix, 8.4 million of their customers total have binge raced while using the streaming service. And between 2013 and 2016, finishing a newly released series on Netflix within the day it came out increased more than 20 times. Totally understandable considering how hard it is to get on the internet without seeing spoilers these days, tbh.

Netflix also released data about which shows are binge raced most commonly. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Fuller House, and Marvel's The Defenders topped that list globally.

Behind Canada, the top countries for binge racers are the United States and Denmark.

Netflix doesn't say why such a high percentage of Canadians are into binge watching, but we do know that Canadians often top others around the world when it comes to hours spend on the internet overall. Makes a lot of sense when you consider how cold and dull it can be here.
