We're Throwing a Jazz Night with Kamasi Washington in Bali This Saturday

In collaboration with Potato Head Beach Club, we're bringing you the icon of the new jazz.

Got no plans yet for the weekend? Well, all of us at VICE Indonesia are going to be at Potato Head Beach Club to spend our Saturday night moving and grooving to saxophonist Kamasi Washington and his 12-piece band.

Contemporary music rarely takes you somewhere spiritual. When Washington is on stage, however, be prepared to be transported into a whole new world. His arrangement reminds us that jazz doesn’t have to be unnecessarily complex and technical all the time. Jazz can give us the feeling of peace and serenity—like we're getting closer to the truth of the universe. Of course, that’s not to say Washington and his band don't have the chops, because they fucking do. In a way, Washington is carrying the torch of work of legendary jazz musicians who bring spirituality to the forefront such as Pharoah Sanders or Yusef Lateef.

Washington's 2018 release, Heaven & Earth, is already convincing critics that's it's going to be the album of the year, which is yet another reason you should witness this legend in the making in Seminyak with us. With Potato Head Bali, we've also picked several acts such as Pete Herbert, DJ Dea, Tantra and more, to make your night one you won't forget.

Come out, get wild and get ready for a life-changing experience. Buy your tickets here and check out the Washington's latest music video above for a taste of what's coming.
