Trump Slammed for Continuing to Bungle Charlottesville Response
President Trump is facing ongoing disapproval from nearly all sides—even among his natural allies—following his response to Charlottesville and his claim Thursday that it was "foolish" to remove "beautiful" Confederate statues. Republican senator Bob Corker, known to have played golf with Trump, said the president "has not yet been able to demonstrate the ability or the competence that he needs to be successful." James Murdoch, chairman of 21st Century Fox—which, full disclosure, owns a small stake in VICE Media—said he would be donating $1 million to the Anti-Defamation League. In an email to friends, Murdoch stated: "I can't even believe I have to write this: Standing up to Nazis is essential; there are no good Nazis."—Reuters/The New York Times

Trump Responds to Barcelona by Floating a Bogus Myth
After at least 14 people were killed in terrorist attacks in Barcelona Thursday, President Trump tweeted a widely discredited myth about US General John J. Pershing using bullets covered in pigs' blood to intimidate Muslim insurgents in the Philippines more than a century ago. "Study what General Pershing of the United States did to terrorists when caught," Trump wrote, referring to a tale disproved by historians.—The Guardian

Former Wasserman Schultz Staffer Charged with Bank Fraud
Imran Awan, a former aide to Democratic congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has been formally accused of bank fraud by a federal grand jury. The 37-year-old and his wife are suspected of raising home equity loans on two properties they then rented, before moving the loan money to Pakistan. Right-wing media previously made unproven links between Awan and last year's DNC email leaks.—BuzzFeed News

Commanding Navy Officer Sacked After USS 'Fitzgerald' Crash
The commanding officer of the US Navy vessel involved in a crash off the Japanese coast that killed seven people has been dismissed of his duties aboard the USS Fitzgerald. Commander Bryce Benson and two other senior officers have been told to stand down. Almost a dozen other sailors onboard during the June crash will face punishment. Rear Admiral Joseph Aucoin said "serious mistakes were made."—AP

Spain Hit With Second Terror Attack
Hours after a van plowed through a crowd in Barcelona, killing at least 13 people and leaving 100 others wounded, a second vehicular attack struck the coastal town of Cambrils early Friday morning. Five people were injured and one killed when five attackers drove a car into a police vehicle and bystanders while reportedly wearing fake explosive belts. ISIS has only claimed responsibility for the Barcelona attack, via its Aamaq news agency.—AP

At Least 13 Killed by Police During Drug Crackdown in Philippines
At least 13 people were killed by police in the Philippine capital of Manila Thursday night as law enforcement continued to enact President Rodrigo Duterte's brutal crackdown on suspected drug dealers. It brings the number of people killed by police this week to at least 80, including a 17-year-old student.—Reuters

Sixth Australian MP Reveals Dual Citizenship
Australia's political crisis over dual citizenship has escalated after MP Fiona Nash revealed she holds UK citizenship through her father, born in Scotland. Nash, deputy leader of the National Party, is the sixth MP to discover dual status. The country's constitution forbids anyone with dual citizenship from entering parliament. Nash said she would let the Australian High Court decide whether she had broken any rules.—BBC News

Libyan National Army Arrests Chief Suspected of War Crimes
The Libyan National Army, the organization in charge of most of the eastern part of the country, has arrested a military figure accused by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of war crimes. A new study in the American Journal of Public Health suggests guns are responsible for higher rates of suicide in rural areas. Researchers looked at more than 6,000 suicides in Maryland and concluded gun access was likely a key factor in the higher rate of suicide in rural parts of the state.—VICE News
