Police shot and killed a man in Enfield, north London, after he made "threats to kill" this weekend.

Firearms officers were called to Cedar Road on Sunday night after receiving reports that a man in possession of a gun was making death threats.

The man, described as white and in his forties, was shot dead outside the Enfield address at 11.50PM.

Police said that they had retrieved a "non-police" firearm from the address but did not say whether the man had been armed when shot.

It's the first fatal shooting made by British police this year.

Hungarian police arrested five men this weekend in connection with the deaths of 71 people, whose bodies were found decomposing in a lorry on an Austrian motorway late last week.

Hungarian police made four arrests on Friday and a fifth on Saturday. Four of the men arrested are Bulgarian and one is Afghan; they are being prosecuted on suspicion of people smuggling.

On Sunday, Germany, France and the UK called for an emergency meeting of EU countries to discuss the migration crisis, while France's foreign minister Laurent Fabius criticised Eastern European countries' approach to the situation, saying it was "scandalous" that they didn't accept their full quota of migrants.

Mohamed Fahmy, a Canadian, Baher Mohamed, an Egyptian, and Peter Greste, an Australian, were arrested in 2013 following the overthrow of president Morsi by the Egyptian army as part of what activists say was a crackdown on free speech.

The three journalists denied all charges and said that they will appeal the verdict. Al Jazeera said the court's decision was "a new attack on the freedom of the press", and "a black day in the history of the Egyptian judiciary".

This weekend the Chancellor George Osborne warned that a Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn posed a "threat to our future national security and to our economic security".

Corbyn, along with the SNP, opposes the Trident nuclear deterrent; MPs must vote next year on whether to renew the programme.

The Chancellor made the comments while announcing £500 million extra funding for the Royal Navy's Farslane submarine base, where Britain's nuclear submarines are berthed.

Police in Thailand gave themselves a cash reward after arresting a person they suspect was involved in August's Bangkok bombing.

Authorities offered the public a £54,000 reward for any information leading to the arrests of the suspects in the bombing, but managed to make an arrest "due purely to the work of police", Thailand's chief of police, Somyot Poompanmoung, said.

"This money should be given to officials who did their job," he told a press conference.
