Sundance NEXT FEST Is Coming to Los Angeles Next Week

Sundance NEXT FEST, a film festival that combines music and cinema, starts August 7th in Downtown LA. Films from Aubrey Plaza, Jason Schwartzman, and Kendrick Lamar are amongst the films screening during the week-long event.

Next week, Los Angeles gets a small taste of Park City, Utah. No, I don't mean it's going to start snowing, people will choose to wear fleece for every occasion, and all homes will be exclusively made of wood. I mean we're getting a little Sundance love.

Sundance NEXT FEST, which features the kind of down and dirty films we love, is hitting the new Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, which happens to be in the former United Artists Theater, one of the oldest surviving classic movie houses in the world. The festival starts August 7th and runs until the 10th.

Aubrey Plaza's Life After Beth, Listen Up Phillip with Jason Schwartzman, and a crazy film about Iranian vampires called A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night are just some of the movies exhibiting at the fest. Plus, NEXT FEST is hosting a 10th anniversary screening of cult classic comedy Napoleon Dynamite at Hollywood Forever Cemetary, for everyone who's always wanted to watch that movie in a graveyard. That's probably a lot of you. And, if that's not enough to get you excited, Kendrick Lamar is world premiering a short film based on his music called m.A.A.d.

Still from Life After Beth, Starring Aubrey Plaza

NEXT FEST is a little different than the average film festival because each movie is being paired with a musical performance from acts like Warpaint and Father John Misty. John Cooper, director of Sundance Film Festival said, “NEXT FEST is a continuation of our efforts to connect film-loving audiences with the next generation of independent filmmakers. The unique convergence of film and music enhances the experience of each and offers fresh insight into the talent and vision of these outstanding independent artists.”

Tickets are available here, and you can follow NEXT FEST on Twitter.
