CANADA - HONEY, I SHIT THE HOT TUB

I've never done anything for the viceland blog before, I'm just a fucking email-answerer in the Montreal office, but when I heard one of my old favourite bands (Dillinger Four) were coming to town for the first time in 8 years, I knew I had to interview them and ask them some really important questions. They have a new record, too. Tour dates after the interview.

Vice: Why haven't you played a show in Canada in 4 million years?

Dillinger Four: It wasn't on purpose. We haven't played a lot of places in 4 million years. We like Canada a lot.

Any memories from your last time in Montreal?

We played at L'X, and it was probably the best show we played anywhere that year. It's all kind of hazy. I remember someone either jumping or falling off the balcony behind the stage. We drank a lot of Maudite or La Fin Du Monde. That probably explains the haziness.

What's better, cheese curds from the Midwest or cheese curds from Quebec?

I can't answer fairly, since I've had Wisconsin and Minnesota curds raw, deep fried (the best way) and in poutine, but only had Quebec curds in poutine. You can't judge a curd when it's covered in gravy. I'm gonna guess that in it's raw form, Wisconsin may beat all.

Were you angry when that band D4 from Australia or whatever started getting popular and their name was everywhere unfairly representing Dillinger Four? Do you like that band?

Totally. Fuck those dudes. Looks like their major label roll of the dice flopped anyhow.

What new music are you listening to?

The new Off With Their Heads record is tight!

What old music are you listening to?

Booker T and the MG's, Stax stuff in general. I go through phases with it.

Who would win in a drinking contest, Dillinger Four or four Pete Dohertys?

Dillinger Four. No question.

I love Dillinger Four and I peed just a little when I found out you were finally coming back to Montreal.

We just added a show with Fucked Up at a place called La Sala Rossa too, so we are playing 3 shows in three nights there now. We like to avoid places for nearly a decade, then wear out our welcome as fast as we can. That's our move!
