GETTING JOKES - DEAR VICE

Dear Vice,
I was very disappointed with entry # 22 in the Vice Guide to New York:
Meow Mix used to be here but their "we hate men" stance didn't do so well for business (you hate half the population? That's cutting a rather large swath, is it not, ladies? Even the KKK only hates about 20% of America). Anyway, now the bar is a slightly cheesy, lo-fi Coyote Ugly kind of situation. That might not sound like a great pitch, but we like it in a lame way.
1. Meow Mix was once a club for lesbian and bisexual women. That they would be less welcoming of male patrons shouldn't come as a surprise. Being less welcoming toward is not the same as hating. Similarly, a woman wouldn't be able to get into some of the exclusive gay male clubs in New York City.
2. Men were always welcome at Meow Mix so long as they were accompanied several women. My male friend never had a problem getting past the door when he went to the club with me. And my gay male friends were able to enter by themselves—without female friends.
Perhaps it's the bad rap they had gotten from the press that forced them to change their door policy and turn into an ugly, characterless place with no personality and even fewer lesbians.
Sincerely,
Jane
