JUSTIN: Last night we had a night off and just decided to do karaoke at our hotel, I guess that's a date night. Canmore didn't know what hit em'!You guys are on tour with another rock and roll couple, Fred and Toody Moon of Pierced Arrows. Do you see yourselves transforming into the grizzled road-warrior type couple?
J: I consider myself a lifer. So does Kat. Those guys [Fred and Toody] are, what is it, "40 years of rock n' roll the hard way"? They inspire the idea that you can do what you want for as long as you want. They're the rock n' roll will never die couple.Rock and roll couples are the best kind of couples! Kat, you're also a wedding photographer which is basically the total opposite of howling like a banshee and playing sweet riffs every night. Is it hard to juggle those different personalities?
KAT: I started doing that years ago, it's kind of the easiest money making job you can do when you first graduate from photography school. It's very seasonal, so you have a lot of your time available in the off-season. I'm working my music schedule around that and vise versa.

K: I know! I don't hide that from my wedding clients. I don't tell them it's a heavy metal band and all the shenanigans that go along with that, but it's the two sides of my personality and I have to balance both. You can't be doing the same thing all the time.

J: Not so much habits, maybe ceremony or superstition. You do certain things a certain way because you lose routine, so you make up certain things to have some kind of normalcy. But no bad habits. Any bad habit I've had was in me well before the road happened. What kind of superstitious stuff? Like no black cats or voodoo spells in the van?
J: Well I can't tell you because then it would be breaking the superstition, wouldn't it?What's the worst part about touring for months on end?
J: I miss my cats (Peep and Mayor). That's it. I know it doesn't sound very rock n' roll but it's the truth. You gotta have a soft spot like that.
J: Yeah it can't always be Napalm Death and lots of drinking, you have to find room to love your pets. Was touring North America surreal? It can be such a bizarre and contradictory place with all the different types of people and landscapes.
K: This has been my first trip over across North America. I've never seen the Rockies before and here I am looking at them out the window. We made it a point to maximize our days off and go exploring. We took time to go through the desert and stop the car, pull over and go for an hour long walk through the canyons in Arizona. When everything is through a car window it can be surreal, sometimes you just have to stop and get out, breath in the air, experience it.

K: Exactly. The desert is so weird and amazing, did you manage to explore it at all?
K: It blew my mind. From the mountains to the desert to the creepy cactus's, to the rock formations, it was like no other place. Sometimes I would just stop for a second and go like, "Oh my god, this is earth". Sometimes it was like Mars! There was this area in Arizona where it was just covered with those crazy, I can't remember the name of them, tall cactus's but the ones with all the arms coming off of it. They just look like these alien plants! I'm just like, "What are these?"Does seeing all that make you bummed out to come back to boring ol' Canada?
K: No, not at all, I said to Justin yesterday like, in less than a week we went from beautiful summer in California and because we've come up through the Rocky Mountains it's a winter wonderland. How does that happen? From one extreme to another in just a week. Like I said this is my first time so I'm like the eager little puppy dog with my head out the window, whereas Justin's done it a million times but done it in a very different way. I think he's almost seeing it more through my eyes this time.04/07 - Republik, Calgary, AB
