Cinefamily's Fantastic Elastic 24-Hour Holiday Telethon

You're not going to see all this film geek stuff under one roof anywhere else.

Often, the only guilt trip that trumps nonprofit fundraising is your friends bombarding you with their “crowdfunded” art projects. What if it was actually a fun thing you wanted to give all your money to, though? Something, like, say Cinefamily’s Fantastic Elastic 24-Hour Holiday Telethon?

Cinefamily is a spread-eagle film fan institution championing the edges of everything related to the medium. Everything. Pioneering animation, silent film retrospectives, the found-footage comedy world, sobering international docu-tales that make you want to be a better human, talking genitalia classics… anything that commands you to submit to an entirely unique view of the world for a couple hours, they love it. And they’re non-profit, and they’re coming out about it in this event.

Besides all the big names conducting Q+As and performances mentioned on the event flier, if you take a moment to read all the small print on this thing's event page online, you’ll see stuff like a black-light restaurant on the patio and a sneak preview of the forthcoming Source Family documentary by Jodi Wille. All live-streamed (the internet takes the place of the telephone), too, in case you can’t be there. Adding to the jumble is an invitation to chime in on Facebook or Twitter with your own programming ideas, and get a response. This thing’s a bucking bronco, and we at VICE hopped on too, tossing in some membership premiums for the event, which they’ll be giving away NPR-style when people sign up for memberships. (You know, like "the next ten people to donate to NPR get a tote bag" kinda thing, except in this case the tote bag is one of our books or DVDs.)
