Techno For the Heart: Daniel Dubb & DV8’s Way of Fighting Cancer

Local Toronto heroes bring together the techno community for a new charity compilation.

One fantastic aspect of electronic music is the community that thrives within it. Despite dance music's up-and-down reputation, it is a movement that strives to breed positivity (and I'm not talking about "PLUR"). Everything helps, whether it's something like the Ibiza Red Cross party or your local club's charity night.

Today's story is one that begins with a touch of sadness, but does represent the degree to which the dance music community can band together in the sake of a good cause. When the mother of Daniel Dubb, local Toronto techno hero, was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in three years, he felt like he had to act. And he did. Along with DV8, the two created From the Heart, a compilation where all proceeds will be donated to charity in benefit of cancer research and victim care.

This is all about "uniting through quality music and a great cause," Daniel explained, while raising awareness and of course some money for research and treatment. The two charities receiving donation are World Child Cancer, who treat children with cancer not fortunate enough to live in the developed world, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, who are the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization.

Music is a great way to bring people together for a good cause. Especially when your compilation boasts some of the absolute hottest names in dance music right now. Sticking purely to the underground—Daniel's trademark vibe—this tracklist features music donated by a handful of A-listers alongside several rising stars.

Steve Lawler, Joris Voorn, and Danny Howells are but three legendary names on the bill. Filling out the rest of the tracklist are stars in their own right—Mihalis Safras, Luca Bachetti, Detlef, Macromism, and Nathan Barato amongst others.

In fact, as a preview of what's to come, today we're featuring a brand new Nathan Barato track, right here. True to Barato's style, this track is exquisitely smooth, carrying ever so well with that seductive female vocal sample work. It's one of those tracks that could fit into a number of different scenarios, from an Ibiza sunset to a late night after-party and beyond. As expected with a Barato production, the low end is just superb, reverberating as ever, breaking into nothing but a kick at one point.

Nathan has been holding it down for Toronto techno as of late, with releases on Inmotion, Suara, Cajual Records, while playing a handful of impressive shows in Ibiza this summer. Next week we'll be showcasing a Danny Howells & Daniel Dubb track so stay tuned.

From the Heart is set to be released on September 29th, 2014 exclusively on Beatport. October 13th, 2014 on iTunes, Traxsource, Spotify and more.
