What's the first song you ever loved?
"Cause I Love You" by Lenny Williams. One of the greatest soul vocal performances I've heard on a recording. Two thirds of the way through, the guy is literally crying and singing at the same time.
What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
Kele Le Roc's "My Love (10 Degrees Below Dub)" and Tina Moore's "Never Gonna Let You Go." It has that UK speed garage and two-step vibe. I grew up in North West London which was around the time I was learning how to DJ, it was the epicenter of two-step garage.
What is your worst guilty pleasure song?
"Spinnin'" by Cajmere featuring Russoul. It's one of those songs I play whether it is a good crowd or not. Russoul's vocal performance on this is amazing and fabulous. I DJed back to back with Joe from Hot Chip a few years ago at Sonar, and inherited this track from him.
What song have you had on repeat in the last month?
Friendly Fires' "Hurting (Tensnake Remix)." It's not a brand new song because it came out a couple of years ago, but other than "Coma Cat," this is my favourite song I've heard from Tensnake.
Which track of your own do you love the most?
My remix of Canyons' "When I See You Again." Probably the most slept on remix I've made. It isn't a dance floor type remix, but I put my heart and soul into this one, bringing out all my analogue synths to give it a bit of charm. Served as a precursor to my remix for Haim, this track is a bit more laid back with that sun drenched yacht rock feel to it.
What track of your own do you hate the most?
Skunk Anansie's "Because Of You (Duke Dumont Remix)." I just listened to this for the first time in five years. After the drums it gets really bad.
What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
Marc Romboy and Stephan Bodzin's "Phobos (Synthapella)." I played this in Germany last week and I managed to get the crowd to do a sit down at around 10,000 people. The problem is there's no drop. The song finished, I walked off stage and they were still sitting down.
