In anticipation for their show at Governors Beach Club last Saturday, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano organized a friendly game of footie at New York's vast playground, Chelsea Piers, and invited some of their fans to come take part in the summer fun. As random as this sweaty meet-and-greet may seem, the idea actually wasn't at all, given that Sunnery is a former high-level soccer player, while Ryan also likes to stay very active, when he's not slamming down big-room beats behind the decks."Sports and music bring people together. Only one is a little bit more intense and sweaty than the other," Sunnery told me. "And to stay healthy and be able to travel a lot in the music business, the two have to go together. I played soccer 5 days a week, and it's the same discipline. You have to work really hard and have a certain state of mind. And music is the same kind of business. It's a lot of competition, and you have to show the best of yourself every day you play, every week."Ryan on the other hand, had a different take on the relationship between sports and music: "I think there's a relationship between the two in terms of the audience as well. Because we played Tomorrowland, and there, you see the whole word, all the flags together, and in the World Cup it's the same thing, you see everyone in one stadium—everyone is together. There's so much bullshit going on in the world, but during the World Cup, for football, everyone comes together, having fun."

The Dutch DJ duo was met by fans and a bunch of friends at 7 P.M. last Friday night, and even Carl Kennedy showed up. The players stayed fueled with espresso-infused coconut water, which was graciously handed out by a group of blond model-esque women, one of which I found out was Ryan's girlfriend.Of their his partner Sunnery told me, "We knew we wanted to work together the day we met. We had a certain vibe together. We started out as good friends. And then you got dreams. We started fooling around with music. And at a certain point, we found out we had a similar interest in music, so we started playing, making mixtapes for people. And I was pushing him (looks to Ryan), actually, to be a big DJ." Ryan had different notions, though. " I just wanted to play! I didn't wanna be a big DJ!"Too bad for you Ryan. I guess you didn't get what you wanted after all.Connect with Sunnery & Ryan!
